The ODYSEAS system respects your privacy and is committed to processing citizens’ personal data transparently, securely and in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and Greek Law 4624/2019. This policy explains what data we collect through our website and digital services, the purposes for which it is collected, and your rights as a data subject.
1. Data controller
The controller of the personal data collected through this website is the ODYSEAS system (Road Monitoring & Safety Systems Authority), headquartered at 14-18 Vytinis Street, 14342 Nea Filadelfeia, Greece. For data protection matters, you may contact the Independent Data Protection Officer Department, as described in the system’s organizational structure.
2. What data we collect
Depending on how you use our website and digital services, we may process:
- Vehicle and driver identification details, such as the vehicle registration number and tax identification number, when checking traffic violations.
- Contact details, such as your full name, email address and telephone number, when submitting a request through the contact form or an Expression of Interest in the National Road Safety Team.
- Files that you voluntarily attach to a form.
- Technical browsing data, such as device type, browser and IP address, through cookies, as described in our Cookie Policy.
Submitting an anonymous report does not require any personal information unless you choose to include it.
3. Purpose and legal basis of processing
We process your data to carry out the statutory responsibilities of the ODYSEAS system, as defined in Law 5256/2025. These responsibilities include checking and recording road traffic violations, processing appeals, responding to citizens’ requests and reports, and operating the National Road Safety Observatory. Processing is based on the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority and, where required, on your consent.
4. Retention period
Data is retained only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, in accordance with statutory limitation periods and public-sector record-keeping obligations. At the end of the applicable retention period, the data is securely deleted or anonymized.
5. Data recipients
Your data is not disclosed to third parties for commercial purposes. It may be shared with competent public authorities, such as the Hellenic Police or gov.gr, when processing violations, payments or appeals. It may also be processed by service providers that provide us with technical support, always under contract and with appropriate data protection safeguards.
6. Your rights
As a data subject, you have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Request deletion of your data where there is no lawful reason for its continued retention.
- Request restriction of or object to processing.
- Data portability, where applicable.
